Web Design and Development
A couple of days ago I had a meeting with a potential client who had some interesting requests. The client’s company wants to expand its services to web design. And not just web design, but mass production of web design. I am talking thousands of websites a day. The problem is, they did not have the man power or technical skills to handle that kind of business. The good thing is that all the websites didn’t have to be custom. In other words, they could use the same template with some minor CSS/image/text changes and off they go! Now they just needed to have some kind of platform to manage everything.
I spoke to my partner about the client’s requirement and he suggested to use WordPress Multi-User. To be completely honest, I have never heard of it before Patrick mentioned it, but as I learned more about it, the more amazing it sounded. Of course, the installation is a bit more complex, you can’t really use it on a shared server… but the possibilities of WordPress MU are amazing. Here’s what it can do:
Using the WordPress multi-user edition, you will be able offer users an opportunity to sign up for a new blog. They will be able to securely manage their templates and settings without affecting any other users. You can have unlimited users with unlimited blogs, and users can have various roles (administrator, editor, author, contributor, subscriber) on each other’s blogs. One or more Site Administrators can perform site-wide management tasks, including adding users and blogs, altering permissions and granting access to themes.
